Il Parco
The Garden was not born out of improvisation, since its conception is keyed in the colours of each season and in the blooming sequence. The sheer opulence of botanical specimens is perceived as unimposing since, on one hand, it feeds new life onto the aged steep castle walls, on the other, it softens and dissolves in the wide surrounding spaces. The visit to the Garden of Castel Giuliano starts just after passing through the broad archway in the perimetral walls, following the access path which runs through the current guesthouse, on one side, and the high Palace wall, on the other. Here reigns the versicoloured red “Cocktail” rose, an old time presence, maintained and improved, whose long shoots climb over the wall, almost entirely covering it.
The path reaches the Courtyard, now a vast rectangular lawn, balancing the perspective to the Palace façade, partially covered by Parthenocissus tricuspidata. One side, belonging to the portal, is freshened by more “Cocktail” climbers, while the remaining three sides are domain of pure white: white blooming of “Alba plena” banksiae rose, soft and bulky, of “Nevada”, growing onto an evergreen ivy, of Wisteria sinensis “Alba”, sending its spring flowers-loaded vines along walls and ramparts, and of tiny Iberis sempervirens, growing within geometrical beds.
